Nylon – the “workhorse” of fibers. Doesn’t mat down over time. Life of 20+ years.
Polyester – soft plush feel. Ease of stain removal. More readily available in a large variety of colors. Life of 5 -15 years depending on quality.
Wool – very expensive fiber used in very high-end applications. Ease of stain removal. Life 40+ years (conservative estimate)
Blends/Others – Manufacturer tries to combine the best qualities of each fiber used. Often not enough installation history to determine a useful life.
